BORDEAUX – Local bowls club hosts another successful Trips Tournament.
Old Parktonian Bowls Club is head over heels after winning the 30th annual Trips Tournament for a fourth consecutive year. The tournament saw 24 teams of three, from bowls clubs across Gauteng, come together at Old Parks to see who is best.
While the tournament was very competitive and featured serious skill, the 72 players shared jokes and stories throughout the event that ran over five weeks. The friendships formed were solidified by something every bowls tournament should finish with – a large lunch together.
Bowls clubs make a trip to Old Parks
“In the end, it came to two Old Parks teams,” said the club’s chairperson, Gary Austin, who was a member of the losing side. He joked his team only lost because he was unable to play in the final.
When asked why Old Parks had done so well in the tournament in recent years, Austin confessed that even when playing against the best, playing at your home ground helps. “We also have such good players at our club.”
The tournament raised roughly R20 000 for the club.
“Old Parktonian Bowls Club would like to thank all the club players who entered this tournament and make this tournament a successful event every year.”
