Referee development headed in right direction – Ndaba
JOBURG – Former Fifa referee, Sylvester Ndaba lauds the contribution of the South African Breweries in the development of football.
Former Fifa referee and resident of Alexandra, Sylvester Ndaba has lauded the work done by the South African Breweries (SAB) in the development of football at grassroots level.
He was speaking at the High Performance Centre where two development courses are currently taking place, saying ‘this will yield tangible results in the near future’.
League coordinators of the 52 South African Football Association (Safa) regions are involved in the training. The training for grassroots sports administrators runs concurrently with the Safa Level 4 Match Officials course at the SAB League Skills Camp.
The five-day course will see the coordinators graduating in sports administration to equip them to efficiently operate their respective leagues in the areas and regions they come from.

Various topics such as club constitutions, financial practices and applying sound business principles have been some of the discussion points on how to efficiently run a football league at grassroots level.
The match officials course involves 30 aspiring match officials currently plying their trade in the SAB League.
“These aspiring referees are being exposed to the highest and most recent methods of officiating football. Not only will this develop the match officials but the overall standard of the SAB League will be taken to the next level,” said Ndaba.
