New tennis club chairman for Old Eds

HOUGHTON – New leadership for the Old Eds tennis club.

Former King Edward VII pupil, Hennie Nel, is the new the tennis club chairman at the Old Edwardian Society (Old Eds) in Houghton.

Nel matriculated in 2003 and graduated with a BA degree in sports psychology from the University of Johannesburg. He went on to work as a tennis coach in Pretoria and a year later went back to Old Eds to help set up the I-TAG Academy which caters for players who are beginners to juniors.
“I hope to move the club forward in any way I can during my term of office. I have grown up here and I understand the club,” said Nel.

“We have a very good relationship with both the King Edward Prep and High School and have now managed to get tennis introduced into the Prep school in Grades 1 and 2.”

Nel, who has the highest recognised coaching certificate in South Africa, will be going to Kenya with the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior team later this month as one of the coaches to the SA Team.
