Bowling club hosts successful charity day

LOMBARDY – Local bowling club promotes lawn bowls for all age groups.

The Lombardy East Bowling Club recently hosted its annual Memorable Order of Tin Hats (M.O.T.H) Charity Bowls Day to raise funds to support veterans who are in need of food and shelter.

M.O.T.H is an organisation open to ex-servicemen who have served their country in a combative role.

The Lombardy Bowling Club provided the facilities completely free of charge for the event.

The day was designed to promote lawn bowls in a competitive, yet enjoyable and friendly manner, and to encourage anyone to try out the game and have fun. Competitors were of all ages with the oldest being the club’s Bic Stewart who is 97. Desiree Levin of Lombardy Bowling Club said, “This age span exemplifies that bowls is a lifelong sport.”

The winners of the competition were Tracy Meyeridricks, Charlotte Rossouw and Dorothy Savage who are all club members.

Armando Jose Coimbra of the organisation said, “My utmost thanks to the sponsor, Philip Neville of Accumulo and to Fonny and Tracy Meyeridricks, their staff and the members of Lombardy East Bowling Club, without whom the efficiency, organisation and happiness of this day could not have happened. Everything ran with Swiss precision.”

Beginners and advanced bowls players can join Lombardy East Bowling Club for a game on Friday and Saturday from 9am to 2pm.
