Torah Academy pupils to take part in CycAlive for charity

HOUGHTON – Torah boys to take on gruelling challenge for charity.

Grade 11 pupils from Torah Academy will once again cycle more than 500km from Johannesburg to Durban in the 19th Annual CycAlive relay race taking place this coming weekend.

The cycling event, the first project to be endorsed by the Nelson Mandela Foundation, was started by the school, along with two other schools, in 1998 as a way to raise funds for educational projects.

This year, the departure will be from the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory in Houghton on 21 August, and will include a send-off by the Steel Wings Motorcyclists and Springs Field Band.

The boys will be joined by their partner schools, Moletsane High School and Pace Commercial Secondary School, both from Soweto, in the gruelling race to Durban.

Also forming part of the team will be cyclists from Israel, all brought out by Partnership 2Gether; as well as principals and teachers from all three schools.
