Norwood young Stars player off to Lesotho

NORWOOD – Local football star putting his team on the map....

Norwood Young Stars Football Club player Okpara Newman has signed a three-year contract with Lesotho outfit Dioli Football Club.

Dioli are currently the league champions in Lesotho and will be competing in the CAF Champions League next season. The new adventure is set to give the young goalkeeper much-needed exposure to blossom as a player.

“At least for a start, this is great. Football is my work and I need to start from somewhere,” Newman said.

Newman, originally from Nigeria, says playing football is all he ever wanted to do. He hopes that this opportunity will open more doors for him to achieve his ultimate goal of playing in Europe one day. “I would like to play in Europe, I want to play among the best in the world and test my skills,”he said.

Young stars president, Venita Masisi said she was delighted for Newman and as a club they wish him all the best. “We are really glad that the clubs out there see the good in our players. We, as the management, wish the player all the best in his professional football career and he will also open doors for other players,” she said.

Masisi added that she is happy to be able to give young players opportunities to be able to further their careers in football. However, she stressed that the team is still operating without a sponsor and it is difficult for them sometimes to travel and play league matches due to financial constraints.
