Arrows gear up for Netherlands

JOBURG - The newly-crowned MultiChoice Diski Challenge champions of the Reserve League of the Premier Soccer League, Lamontville Golden Arrows, are gearing themselves for a week-long European adventure when they visit the Netherlands.

The seven-day trip to the Netherlands is awarded to the overall winners of the Diski Challenge every year. Like the inaugural winners of last year, AmaTuks Arrows, led by head coach Vusumuzi ‘VV’ Vilakazi and captain Sibusiso Sibeko, will depart for the Netherlands on 18 March and return to South Africa on 26 March.

During their visit, the club will get to test their strengths against Beloften Eredivisie sides; PEC Zwolle, FC Twente and Heracles FC. During their stay in the Netherlands, Arrows will be based in Zwolle and will train at the Ijsseldelta Stadium – the training venue for PEC Zwolle first team.

Arrows will also spend some time at the Royal Netherlands Football Association (KNVB) headquarters in Utrecht, training under the watchful eye of senior Eredivisie mentors while also getting an opportunity to observe a training session of the Netherlands senior national team as they prepare for their international friendly against France.

They round off their stay in the Netherlands, with an attendance of Netherland’s game against former world champions France at the majestic Amsterdam Arena.

Abafana Bes’thende, as Arrows are affectionately known to those close to their hearts, clinched the 2015/16 Asidlali Trophy in dramatic fashion as they came back from a goal down to beat Free State Stars 2–1 on the final day of the season with both goals coming in the last five minutes of the match.
