Cosmos should thank their ancestors as the score line of 5-0 could have easily been anything up to 10 goals had the Ghost’s striker, Tendai Ndoro been clinical in front of the posts.
From the first whistle, the Buccaneers were business-minded and they could have rattled the back of the net as early as in the third minute had Alex lad, Mpho Makola, connected with a beautiful cross that whizzed past the front of the goalmouth.
The Buccaneers opened their account in the 16th minute when defender Ayanda Gcaba thundered a volley past the hapless Cosmos keeper. The referee rubbed salt into the wound of Cosmos soon after when he produced a straight red card for Cosmos player Cheslyn Jampies for a dangerous tackle.
This opened the floodgates as yet another volley found the back of the net, this time by Sifiso Myeni in the 30th minute. Makola then made amends for the two misses he had, one in the third minute and the other in 35th, as he rattled the net for the Ghost’s third goal of the evening in the 40th minute.
As if that was not enough, Zimbabwean international striker Ndoro had a simple tap-in goal in the 43rd minute to make it 4-0 as the teams went into the break.
The Buccaneers resumed the second half from where they left off. Ndoro cracked the defence on several occasions but was wasteful in front of goals. He missed a few goal-scoring opportunities, one of which was a one-on-one with the keeper but he shot wide, and another he had the ball in the back of the net but was adjudged to have been offside.
Pirates’ Luvuyo Memela could have had his name on the scoresheet as well when he had an opportunity to score but decided to pass, while Myeni missed the goals with a bicycle kick that could have easily been the goal of the season.
Substitute Gift Motopa who replaced Myeni scored the final goal for the 5-0 drubbing.
