WATCH: Lions of the North roar onto scene

HIGHLANDS NORTH - Highlands Park Football Club, also affectionately known as the Lions of the North, recently showed great form in the National First Division (NFD).

After finishing in 11th position in their maiden season in the NFD last year, the Johannesburg north-based side brought in some quality players and coaching staff in the 2015/16 season as they looked to step up their bid for the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

In the beginning of the season, the club recruited former Platinum Stars coach Allan Freese as their chief mentor for their new campaign.

Under the guidance of Freese, the club has enjoyed a rich vein of form. With 11 games passed, the club now boasts the best defence in the league.

Brad Kaftel, co-chairperson of Highlands Park Football Club, said the hard work which the technical staff has put in behind the scenes is paying dividends.

Kaftel praised Larry Brookstone who is also the co-chairperson and technical director of the team for the tireless work he constantly puts in.

“He is a key figure in the club and puts enormous time and effort into the team. His efforts are a big competitive edge for us,” said Kaftel.
