Club encourages disabled and able-bodied bowlers to join

LOMBARDY EAST - The Lombardy East Bowling Club is broadening its bowls offering to further cater for physically and mentally disabled bowlers, as well as to support organisations which assist disabled players.

Although the club already has disabled players under its clientele portfolio, including disabled Protea player Desiree Levin, it is creating further interest in the sport through fundraising initiatives.

In September, the club hosted a fundraising bowls event in aid of Disability Bowls South Africa and the event raised nearly R30 000 for the organisation.

“Another event, The Home Bid Spectacular Circle of Talents, is planned to take place on 20 December. The theme is transformation and will demonstrate that bowls crosses barriers of genders, age groups, race, able-bodied and disabled players,” said Levin.

The club boasts well-maintained bowling greens which offer disabled and able-bodied players the chance to exercise, enhance their sporting skills and develop local friendships and connections with other bowls players.

The Lombardy East Bowling Club encourages those who have an interest in bowls and who may or may not suffer from a disability, to contact the club’s management team.
