Old Eds cricket team keeps winning

JOBURG - Bolstered by the inclusion of their two provincial cricket players, Stephen Cook and Neil McKenzie, the Old Eds Premier cricket league team beat Krugersdorp High Old Students Association (Khosa) by 158 runs and gained a valuable bonus point.

Batting first, Eds lost Andrew Kirkland early on, but Matthew Daniel and Cook formed a formidable partnership. Both scored well-deserved centuries with Cook out for 108 and Daniels on 118 not out.

The dismissal of Cook brought McKenzie to the wicket and along with Murray Workman gave the team a strong finish to the innings with a challenging 323/4 off 50 overs.

Despite an aggressive approach from the Khosa openers, Sean Jameson took two early wickets. Scott Conway, supported by Cook and Mitch van Buuren, all weighed in with two wickets each.

McKenzie came on to wrap up the tail with his first two wickets for the club for a few years bowling out Khosa for 165.

Old Eds have won three matches in a row after a slow start and now lie third in the table, one point behind Soweto.
