The KES boys do it again

HOUGHTON - For the fourth year in a row, King Edward VII School (Kes) has reigned supreme at the annual boys’ school inter-high athletics meeting which was hosted by Jeppe High School this year.

The athletics meeting, which is in its 32nd year, included 10 of Gauteng’s best sporting schools.

Kes reaffirmed its position as the top athletics school, winning the meeting for the 21st time. Afrikaans Seuns Hoërskool (Affies) took second place, and hosts, Jeppe, finished in third place, only a single point behind Affies.

Jeppe’s director of sport, Ryan Ravenscroft, expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to making the day a resounding success.

“I would like to congratulate Kes on their victory, and commend every school that took part today on its excellent sportsmanship and camaraderie,” said Ravenscroft.

Spokesperson for Kes, Lisa Slooten, also expressed sheer enthusiasm on behalf of the school regarding its outstanding performance.

“We did it,” said Slooten excitedly.

“King Edward’s School athletes are 2015 inter-high champions again.”

The competition was very tight with Affies, Jeppe and King Edward trading places on top of the scoreboard every couple of events.

Leading into the final event of the day, the relays, it was Kes which had the lead, but the tension and excitement were at an all-time high as the athletes gave it their all.
