Digicall opens doors for tennis in South Africa

CRAIGHALL PARK - Tennis South Africa announced the growth of tennis in South Africa.

Tennis South Africa announced that Boland Tennis in the Cape will host three Digicall Futures Series events in November. Futures tournaments on the International Tennis Federation circuit are the third and final tier of international professional competition.

Digicall, a financial services company based in Craighall Park, will sponsor the three events which will run consecutively at Maties Tennis Club, Coetzenburg Sports Grounds and the University of Stellenbosch.

“We are excited to have sponsored the Futures [Series] as this gives a great opportunity for tennis players in South Africa to break into the international stages,” said Digicall chairman, Altmann Allers.

Riad Davids, vice-president of Tennis South Africa, explained that the sponsorship had opened doors for tennis in South Africa.

“What we can take out of the Futures series is that we actually have international tennis back in South Africa and players can earn international points,” said Davids. “Our best players are given the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of their own family and friends.”

There will be a singles and doubles draw for both men and women, and all the main draws will comprise 32 competitors. Each of the men’s and women’s events will have prize money of R134 000.

“This is the beginning of great things for tennis in this country,” said Le Roux Conradie of CaylixSport Management which is assisting in the organisation of the series. “Our top players will be given the building blocks to progress right here on home soil. They will be able to progress here and play internationally.”
