Ajax might just wrest trophy away from Chiefs

JOBURG - A thrilling MTN8 final is on the cards on 19 September when the youthful Ajax Cape Town side take on defending MTN8 champions, Kaizer Chiefs.

With less than 6 000 tickets available for this weekend’s highly anticipated MTN8 final at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium between Ajax Cape Town and Kaizer Chiefs, fans are urged to purchase their tickets early to be part of the football spectacle.

The final will kick off at 3pm on 19 September, and the big question on everybody’s lips is whether Amakhosi will be able to defend their trophy against a youthful and stylish Ajax Cape Town side that is oozing with confidence.

Of late, the Capetonians have exhibited some brilliant football, and many in the football fraternity believe that if the core of the team can be maintained for a few seasons, Ajax Cape Town will be a force to be reckoned with in South African football.

Under the tutelage of astute coach, Roger De Sa, who guided Orlando Pirates to the finals of the Confederations of African Football Champions League two seasons ago, the Urban Warriors, founded in 1999 as a result of a merger of Seven Stars and Cape Town Spurs, are beginning to show signs of maturity.

They currently occupy the top spot on the Premiership log with nine points from four games, while Amakhosi are in third position with eight points from the same number of games.

Against a Chiefs side buoyed by recent victories in the league under new coach Steve Komphela, the Urban Warriors are expected to hold their own and could possibly wrest the trophy away from Chiefs.

But whatever happens on the day, De Sa will be pleased to have guided his team to the finals of the MTN8.

The Telkom Knockout is already looming large and the Urban Warriors are surely eyeing that one as well, and possibly the top prize itself, winning the Absa Premiership.
