Old Eds boat club takes part in Buffalo Regatta

HOUGHTON - The Old Edwardian Society boat club once again took part in the Buffalo Regatta, one of the country’s most prestigious boating events.

This year marked the 127th hosting, and at its prime, the regatta hosted over 200 events during one regatta.

The regatta in its current form runs for two full days and attracts top crews from around the country. The two main events, the men’s silver sculls and the grand challenge for men’s coxless fours, have two of the most valuable trophies in South African sport, both standing over one metre high.

The Old Eds Sports Club supported the event for a number of years and have been instrumental in encouraging other Gauteng boat clubs to compete.

The club fielded two men’s eight and above, and a female sculler.

Individual performances were good with gold in several events with a number of second and third place finishes.

The club finished top of the overall points standing.
