Kent professional cricketer joins Old Eds Sports Club

HOUGHTON - The Old Edwardian Society's cricket club has a professional cricketer joining them for the second part of the cricket season.

Calum Haggett played for Kent County Cricket Club in the United Kingdom. The 24-year-old attended the Millfield School in Somerset England, a school renowned for producing many future international sports people.

He played first team cricket for the school and was signed by Somerset County whilst still at school.

Haggett was offered the chance to move to Kent in 2010 and established himself in the Kent County team.

He describes himself as a bowling all rounder who can bat a bit.

“[This] is an opportunity for me to spend time in the middle with both the bat and ball and be prepared for the next English County season. I have not had to change my bowling action too much even though I am playing on harder and faster wickets than back home,” he said.

Haggett will be mostly staying with his uncle in Alberton during his stay in South Africa and hopes to have the chance to catch up with some of his fellow Kent County Cricket players who are playing and gaining experience in Durban.
