Warming up for the Dusi

JOBURG - The Jozi Duzi Assault training event was hosted at Emmarentia Dam by the Dabulamanzi Canoe Club on 11 January.

With more than 60 paddlers the event gave participants the opportunity to train for the upcoming Dusi canoe marathon.

The top finishing positions were dominated by Soweto’s Racing team, with the winner being Greenside resident Loveday Zondi.

Spokesperson of Jozi Dusi Jennie Dallas said, “Having also won the previous day’s Dusi seeding race at East Rand Kayak in Benoni, Zondi has etched his place as top favourite for Gauteng’s top Dusi finisher.”

Another participant, Bryanston resident Guy Potter who has completed a number of Dusi races, partnered with James Arnold. The duo finished the Jozi Dusi in 33rd position and were the third doubles team home.

The Gauteng Canoe Union has scheduled a number of double-header races in the next few weekends for Dusi preparation.
