Freese hopes to upset favourites SuperSport

JOBURG - Alexandra’s most exciting player in the Absa Premiership, Lebogang Manyama will be in the thick of action on Saturday when his SuperSport United locks horns with defending champions Platinum Stars in the 2014 edition of the Telkom Knockout.

Alexandra’s most exciting player in the Absa Premiership, Lebogang Manyama, will be in the thick of action on Saturday when his SuperSport United locks horns with defending champions Platinum Stars in the 2014 edition of the Telkom Knockout.

The two teams will clash in the midst of a carnival atmosphere at the Orlando Stadium, with the match set to kick-off at 3pm. A music concert will set the action in motion, accompanied by fun for the whole family including face painting for the little ones.

Entertainers will include award-winning HHP, PRO, Chomee and her stylishly sexy dancing moves and top DJ Glen Lewis of Metro FM fame, which will start three hours before the official kick-off time.

United coach Gordon Igesund said his team had no injuries and most of his players, including the exciting Manyama, will be available for selection with the exception of Roscoe Pietersen who was red-carded in the mid-week league game against Orlando Pirates.

“I urge all soccer lovers to flock to Orlando Stadium to witness exciting football,” said Igesund, who has led a resurgence of SuperSport since taking over the reins after the departure of Cavin Johnson.

Stars coach Allan Freese said his players are raring to go and will defend the trophy they snatched under the feet of Pirates at the Mbomela Stadium in Mbombela last year. “Often people do not give us any chance at anything, but we have always gone on to win and eliminate the favourites,” he said in reference to Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns, the two giants they eliminated in the quarter finals and the semi-finals respectively on their road to the final.

“Who knows, the same may happen on Saturday. People are not giving us any chances at all, but I am confident we will upset the favourites and retain our trophy,” Freese said, quickly adding that he had the greatest respect for coach Igesund and SuperSport as a team.
