Old Eds race entries pour in

With only a few days to go until the annual Old Eds/HFPA road race entries for the 10km and 21km race are still pouring in.

The race is run in conjunction with Morningside Country Club road runners.

“So far the entries have gone true to form with a solid number already having entered, but we know that over the last week before the race, and the race day itself, the interest will peak,” said Mike Dunk, communications officer for Old Eds.

Dunk said people could still enter the race at the club and on race day itself from 6.30am at the club grounds.

The 10km and 21km races will start at 8am with the 10km walkers setting off at 8.15am, while the fun run will start at 8.20am.

In addition to the races themselves there will be plenty of entertainment available at the club.

“There will be a children’s play area, plenty of food and drink and live entertainment,” said Dunk. “We want to make it a fun day for all the family and that is why we have introduced the fun run element this year to encourage families to take up running.

“As the 10km walk is the week after the 702 walk, this is an ideal opportunity for those who did that walk to once again take part in what is now a recognised Central Gauteng Athletics walking league event.”

The route has been independently IAAF verified and certified, and there will be voluntary seeding pens for the 10km and 21km events.

Over the years this race has proved to be one of the most popular on the calendar, and if the weather is kind, then this years race will be no exception.
