Old Eds calls for runner registrations

The annual Old Eds/HFPA road race, run in conjunction with Morningside Country Club Road Runners, will take place on 3 August, starting and finishing at Old Eds.

Traditionally, the race has been seen as one of the first major events after Comrades, and also an ideal warm-up for the City2City Marathon.

In addition to the usual 10km and 21km road races, there will be a 10km walk walk which forms part of the Gauteng Championships and comes a week after the 702 walk.

This year, the Parents Association of King Edward Preparatory school will be organising a 5km fun run so the whole family is catered for at this one event.

“Over the years the top runners from Gauteng and elsewhere have supported this race including Bruce Fordyce and Sonja Laxton, and we see no reason why there should not be a good turnout of quality runners again this year,” said Mike Dunk, communications officer for the society.

“It is the biggest event the society organises during the year and has been hugely successful in the past, and well loved by all those who take part.”

There will also be the usual family entertainment during the course of the day.

“One of the innovations on entering for this year’s event is that runners can now see how many times they have completed the race and their best times,” added Dunk.

Online entries close on 18 July, however, late entries will be accepted at The Sweatshop.
