This follows their 18 gold medal success at the Central Gauteng Budo Karate Youth Championship in March.
The Dorfman Karate team comprises of members of Malcolm Dorfman’s Parktown North Dojo and Shane Dorfman’s Norwood Dojo.
The team rose to the occasion at the championship taking home 24 gold, 18 silver and 17 bronze medals.
Malcolm Dorfman congratulated Grant Booysen, Tihan Enslin, Noa Burke, Joshua Organ, Dylan Harry, Matthew Pine, Joshua Barron, Dora Di Noia, Kisha Alley, and Luke Johnstone for receiving gold medals in the advanced, intermediate and novice categories.
“Special mention must be made of the four medals won by Grant Booysen, three of which were gold and as well as Matthew Sweeney who won three silver medals,” said Dorfman.
The 24 gold medals were the highest number achieved from all the participating teams.
The winners were:
- In the open categories, Rasoava Antsomampianina (16) and Damien Dufour (13) both came up out tops as the grand champions – Antsomampianina was the winner of kata and kumite.
- Grant Booysen (11), Dhievesh Thambiran (14) and Tayla Chidrawi (17) won the open kata gold medals, while Jarred Hermann (9), Jordan Voigt (11), Elizabeth Lonmon-Davis (9) and Tori Milasinovich (16) won the open kumite gold medals.
- Matthew Sweeney (11), Robin Gast (17), Rafaella Lipschitz (12) and Tori MIlasinovich (16) attained silver medals in open kata.
- Catherine Sweeney (9) took silver in open kumite, while Lipschitz also followed up her open kata silver medal with a silver medal in her open kumite category.
- Tihan Enslin and Damien Wantenaar (kata) and Dylan Harry, Grant Booysen and Julian Otto (kumite) were awarded bronze medals in the open category.
