Soccer club registrations open

PARKVIEW - Zoo Lake Footbal Club registration will take place at Zoo Lake Sports Club on 1 March at 10.30am.

Children aged between six and 13 are welcome to register.

According to the manager of the soccer club – called Runnin’ Rebels Soccer – Alan Brainin, the team provides soccer development for children of all ages and abilities regardless of their economic background.

Brainin said sports play a huge part in the lives of children.

“Socially it is a great way to make new friends and physical exercise is a must for all children anyway. Sports play a huge role in their overall development as they progress into adulthood,” he said.

“We believe sport has a positive effect on all aspects of a child’s life: school work improves, health is better, and socially children learn how to sort out any differences with other kids through the lessons of teamwork.”

Brainin said although children are now born into a “Playstation generation” he doesn’t believe that children no longer have the desire to be actively involved in sports.

“I believe that most children are involved in sport at a young age but give sport up in their teens due to various reasons,” he explained.

“The focus can change from playing competitive sport to rather concentrating more on studies – especially when the child realises their dream of playing professionally is not going to happen.”

Brainin said this should not discourage parents to encourage their little ones to begin sport at an early age.

“Group activities encourage participation, co-operation among classmates, and helping children to sort out their differences peacefully,” he added.

Brainin encouraged parents to bring their children to sign up for Zoo Lake FC.

“We encourage group participation. As the children progress… technical instruction and social awareness guide our game play or match play. All these concepts start with our youngest kids at age two and progress through the programmes that we offer.”
