Alex football coaches are up skilled

ALEXANDRA - Six coaches from the leagues of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association benefited from a five-day upskilling course conducted by the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) at the Water Stone College in Kibler Park.

The Association’s technical director, Mxolisi Mngomezulu, said the coaches were accredited with a Level 1 coaching certificate.

The course, which took place from 24 to 28 June, was conducted by Dutch coaching experts, along with Alexandra’s own graduate of the KNVB coaching initiative, Caesar Maphalla.

Maphalla, a former Bafana Bafana stalwart, is one of Alexandra’s up and coming coaches: he has inspired a different brand of football as coach of FC Alexandra, which plays in the Safa Second Division League, better known as the Vodacom League.

“We are happy with the transfer of skills as shown by KNVB; not just to the coaches of the Association’s leagues, but also to our own rising coaching star Caesar,” said Mngomezulu, who was also trained by the Dutch experts from 17 to 21 June.

Mngomezulu said Maphalla was part of the Association’s Monday evening coaching clinics which are conducted at the Alexandra Stadium as part of the local football development programme.

Mngomezulu added that football coaching and playing equipment was donated by the Gauteng Arts, Sport, Culture and Recreation Department, and will soon be handed over to various coaches in the Association’s leagues. The items in Mngomezulu’s possession included boards, whistles, pumps, balls, cones and bibs, which were donated to him by Jacob Mathebula.
