Dismal showdown at Abu Dhabi for Kajee

JOHANNESBURG – Moosa Kajee, nine year-old go-kart racer, was handed a disappointing outcome at the Rotax Max Challenge at the Yas Marina Circuit before returning home for SA Nationals.

Moosa Kajee, a nine-year-old go-kart racer known as MK, was ready to face the international Rotax Max Challenge at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi on 17 March.

The young racer was excited to showcase his skills in the capital of the United Arab Emirates before flying back home and participating in the SA Nationals.

Moosa showed great pace during practice but, as for race day, he was forced to retire the kart twice in Heat 1 and Heat 2 with two engine failures. Bumping and barging got the better of the Apax Primary student, who was eventually pushed out of qualifying position and started the grid at the back of Heat 3. Moosa was still determined to at least finish the race regardless of his engine losing power.

He showed great sportsmanship beyond his years as he held his head high and congratulated fellow racers, “I would like to congratulate the other drivers and thank the Rotax Challenge Sponsor for selecting and funding this race. I also need to thank my mum and granddad for coming to the race with me and keeping my spirits up; you guys mean the world to me.”

Moosa returned home to participate in the SA Nationals Round One in Vereeniging. He had a good run to the eighth position and was happy to finish within the top 10, considering that he started the race at the back of the grid. “I would have had the fourth position but I pushed too hard to try and catch up to the front of the pack after being stung by a hornet under my left eye during the race. The other drivers performed well and I would like to congratulate them.”

Moosa talks to his brother Aadam before the final race at the SA Nationals Round 1 in Vereeniging.

The determined go-karter is proud of his team and his race coaches, Fabienne Lanz and Peter Lanz. “They always have faith in me and always encourage me. We will be ready for a huge weekend in Cape Town for Round 2 of the SA Nationals on 29 April. I am determined to perfect my passion; the only fear I have is never trying.”

Aadam Kajee, Moosa’s younger brother, is a six-year-old motorcycle racer. Aadam, also known as AK, took home third place in the novice class of the Gauteng MotoSA/MotoGP last year with a pocket bike and continues to show promise on the track. Aadam also competed in the go-karting SA Nationals.

Aadam Kajee, a six-year-old motorcycle racer, has begun competing in go-karting like older brother Moosa and finished third in the Cadet Class SA Nationals.

“Congratulations to my super amazing brother, Aadam, who came third in the Cadet Class SA Nationals,” said Moosa. “I love you my special bro and thank you for pushing my limits.” As invitational candidates, both boys will be competing in the Sodi World Series Karting Championship on 10 April in Dubai.
