LETTER: Move Jazz on the Lake to a stadium

Michael Hobson writes:

Joni Tollner’s report, Jazz festival a no-show, week ending 18 September, refers.

Yes, it was just plain stupid that no sign was put up at Zoo Lake about the change of venue.

Why move from one residential area, Zoo Lake, to another, James and Ethel Gray Park? Why upset more local residents?

Claire Pacariz of Joburg Theatres is reported as looking, in future, for new venues and underused parks. No! No! The only sensible venues for such a large-scale jazz event are stadia.

The potential audiences would feel at ease in such places with their familiarity and accessibility, and local residents would not be ‘blasted out of existence’.

Why can common sense not prevail?
