A note to Eskom

Marcelle Baptista from Norwood writes: A little note to Eskom: We get that we have load shedding, we understand why you understand you need to do this, and in all fairness we have been very supportive of this initiative and your promises that in the long run this will benefit all of us.

However, do you have to load shed in peak times meaning 6am to 10am in the morning? Because the traffic lights cease to function and that for the morning traffic spells chaos.

Same applies to 2pm to 6.30pm shift, again many people travel home between those times from a long hard day at work and the last thing you need is chaos in traffic due to traffic lights and it all boils down to load shedding. We understand that we sit in traffic daily, fair enough, we are going through the motions of load shedding, but a little more careful planning on timing would be appreciated. We are not disputing your need to do it, but we are questioning the timing structure please? It’s bad enough the power is off from 6.30am to 10.30am in most residential areas, and not to mention how that affects many a household, and not many people are fortunate enough to afford alternative forms of power such as generators or solar, but have to depend on good old-fashioned powerhouse Eskom, but seriously in peak traffic times is a no go. I have mentioned, in a article published before, that travelling 12kms takes one and a half hours and that is no joke.

We, the people of Southern Africa, have given you our co-operation and consideration, please show us some consideration in return, that is all we ask.

Thank you.
