Letter to the editor: Corridors of congestion

Ken Scriven writes:

It would appear that Orange Grove residents have begun to realise how the Rea Vaya bus route along Louis Botha Avenue will affect them and this has been identified by Ward 72 councillor Steven Kruger.

May I point out that when the announcement was originally made, there was not one voice of concern. Instead, it was lauded as the spark that would revitalise the entire area along the route.

I live on the eastern side of Louis Botha Avenue and it appears that I will have limited access to Norwood (Grant avenue and Norwood Mall) and the alternative would eventually be Eastgate or the refurbished Bruma Lake area. Also, the quick and convenient access I have to the M1 that I use for business reasons, will also be restricted.

May I suggest that you ask the Johannesburg Development Agency to publish in this newspaper, a detailed plan or map that will indicate exactly the number and location of the number of stations between Houghton and Alexandra, as well as the intersections that will prohibit right or left turns and the number of intersections that will be a direct crossing.

This will allow business and residents to plan for a situation that will affect their future convenience and fortunes.
