Good Samaritans are still out there

I believe that we live in a country where unfortunately bad service is rife and few people actually complain, thereby exacerbating the problem.

I believe that we live in a country where, unfortunately, bad service is rife and few people actually complain, thereby exacerbating the problem.

However, every now and then something happens that restores my faith in the world and shows me that there are actually people out there who will go the extra mile when it comes to service.

On 4 December, my mother and I were rushing home to bake a large order for a function. As we crossed the N3 bridge over the highway on Linksfield Road, I realised that my car had a flat tyre. I pulled into the Caltex service station known as Linksfield Service Station. I parked the car in front of the service station shop intending to call my insurance and get roadside assistance.

Immediately two of the petrol attendants ran up to me and asked me whether I had a jack and a spare. I was so taken aback that I opened the boot and they immediately set about changing the tyre, without me asking them to do so or anything. They were so helpful and they even put the tyre and the jack away neatly afterwards.

What I was expecting to be a massive setback and take hours to resolve was done in under 15 minutes and we were back on the road in no time. It all happened so fast that I forgot to ask them for their names but I did see the name badge one was wearing, his name was Agreement.

I gave each of them R50 as a reward for making my day with their friendly, no-nonsense assistance. Their attitudes were awesome and I wish that every other person in the service industry would learn from them!

Well done to these two gentlemen for making such a difference in my life, thank you.
