Letter to the editor: Winners Chapel was noisy – Resident

Gerald Davids writes:

With regards to your article, Relief as church moves, week ending 29 August, I would like to reply to the resident (who requested anonymity) who felt that the church was being targeted.

Firstly, I would like to point out to her that the noise from the church did in fact disturb residents living in the area. There is no doubt about that.

With regards to her statement about the Jewish synagogue I would like to point out the following facts:

(q) The synagogue does not make any noise that would disturb residents living in the vicinity.

(q) The one street block in front of the synagogue is indeed closed off for one hour during the Friday night service, and for four hours during the Saturday morning service. This is purely done for security reasons and with full permission from the Johannesburg city council.

(q) If anyone does request to be able to drive past the synagogue the barriers are moved to allow that vehicle through and then closed again.
