Picking up after your pooch

Proud Parkhurst resident who loves all the beautiful animals in our suburb writes:

This letter is in response to a letter, “Please pick up your dog’s poop” (published week ending 18 July).

As a proud Parkhurst resident for the past 14 years, I’ve watched this beautiful suburb transform from an ordinary-looking suburb into a trendy, upmarket [one] with rising property values and great improvement to the look and feel.

Our suburb has lovely pets, especially proud dog owners, who walk their lovely animals on our beautifully manicured lawns.

It is absolutely lovely to see all the fine and lovely animals strutting [their stuff], but what is terribly offensive and extremely unhygienic is when these dog owners leave their dog poop on our lawns.

Those dog owners slink away quietly, without due consideration given to us proud homeowners who keep our lawns manicured to look beautiful for them and for the several children in prams, who also go for their walkies. These children are exposed to the unhygienic excrement of dogs.

I would in fact like to see dog owners walking their animals with a coloured plastic [bag] in their hands, indicating that they are clean and hygienic dog owners. I would also like to see, in the event of their animals making a nature call, it immediately scooped up.

And if there is no plastic [bag] in their hands, they be immediately fined for not having it on their person, thereby ensuring that there is no excrement left on our beautiful lawns.
