Dare to be happy

JOBURG - Richard Bach wrote, "The truth you speak has no past and no future. It is, and that's all it needs to be."

We need to dare to be happy.

“My purpose is to live my life in a way that will make me happy.” Go on… Say it again. “My purpose is to live my life in a way that will make me happy.”

Does this statement make you feel empowered or insecure?

Consider the following questions:

How many times have we been told to do something because others can’t?

Will you alleviate the disease of others by suffering disease yourself?

Will you fill the bellies of the world’s starving by starving yourself?

Will you prevent others from experiencing negative emotions by experiencing misery, suffering, pain and grief yourself?

Now consider for a moment that a healthy doctor is more valuable to his patients than a sick doctor, that a well-nourished farmer can feed more starving people than one suffering from malnutrition, that a wealthy person can give more to charity than someone battling to survive.

It follows that a happy person is able to spread more joy than a sad person.

Remember that you cannot give what you do not have, so by becoming happy, stable, secure, fulfilled, focused and prosperous in your own right, you create time and resources which you can share with others.

Is this not a wonderful way to create wellness in all aspects of your life, and then help others create it too?

Go on… Try it. I dare you to be happy.

This week’s challenge:

Take some time to be happy, to talk to a stranger, to compliment someone. Allow yourself to be you for a moment each day, and see how your world will change.
