Horns were locked between St Stithians College and St Albans College as they both claimed a draw score of 3–3 at the St John’s College 125 Football Festival. The two colleges from Sandton and Pretoria, respectively, played against each other on the last day (September 9) of the two-day festival at St John’s College in Houghton.
Head of football at St Stithians College Justin Collett said given the scoreline, it was an exciting game. He said they had brought several youngsters to the festival who had a nice learning experience as they played against St Albans. “We have four U15s playing for us this weekend, our first team goalkeeper is actually in Grade 8.
“St Albans beat us earlier in the season so the fact that we got a draw out of them today is just a step in the right direction.”
St Albans College football second team coach Fran Seema said they had brought in their second team because the Grade 12s were currently writing preliminary exams. “We have been on a school break because we are a three-term school, so we only came back on Tuesday (September 5) meaning we only trained on Wednesday and Thursday. The boys gave their best.”
Seema added that they had lost to Jeppe High School for Boys and won 2–1 against Springs Boys’ High School. The coach expressed he was not satisfied with the officiating in the current game with the Saints but accepted that it was one of the downsides of the game.
