Saps officer and prisoners die in highway collision

A collision on the M1 highway claimed the life of a police officer, as well as some of the prisoners being transported in the vehicle.

A fatal accident occurred on the M1 South today, October 23 between a police van and another vehicle.

According to a statement released, a police van carrying prisoners collided with a Ford Ranger bakkie, killing an officer and the prisoners being transported in the back.

The collision took place on October 23.

The incident took place between Corlett Drive and Atholl Oaklands Road.

It has been reported that the Ford Ranger lost control after an apparent road rage incident involving a Mini Cooper.

The total number of deaths is five, one being an SAPS police officer and the other four were suspects.

The highway was completely closed as investigations took place.
