St John’s College learner represents SA at the FIBA Africa Regional Youth Camp for boys in Mali

St John's College learner Yanda Peter represented SA at the upcoming FIBA Africa Regional Boys’ Youth Camp in Mali.

Fédération Internationale de Basketball (FIBA) or the International Basketball Federation held its annual youth basketball camps at the end of September. The boys’ camp was held from September 22-22 in Bamako, Mali while the girls’ camp was held in Kigali, Rwanda from September 26-28.

St John’s College learner, Yanda Peter represented SA at the FIBA Africa Regional Youth Camp for boys in Mali.

“The criteria to be selected includes playing for the Gauteng provincial teams which I have been doing since being in the U14 team. I hope to be the best player I can be and see how far basketball can take me after completing high school,” said Yanda.

He recounted the new skills he acquired at the camp and marvelled at his youth camp experience.

Peter started playing basketball in Grade 5 at St John’s Pre-Preparatory School and said the journey has been fun.

“I juggle playing sports and my studies by practising basketball and playing matches outside of school hours.”

The Grade 10 learner noted that his favourite basketball moments included being selected for the SA U16 team for the Regional Youth Games in Malawi last year.
