Fifty volunteers cleaned up the longest stream in Johannesburg, picking up litter, plastic, cartons, soft drink bottles, clothing, old tyres, old concrete cement, and all types of waste, to preserve the environment.

Ward 103 councillor Lynda Shackleford thanked the group for their efforts and expressed her wish to do more voluntary clean-ups with the group.

“Thank you so much for taking time out on a Sunday morning to clean this river in what looks like will be a thunderous morning. We have more of these planned which I hope to include you,” she said.

Global warming is the biggest issue facing mankind, and the young adult volunteer group takes the lead in responding to climate change and examines climate disaster cases, seeking solutions to environmental problems. Rapidly increasing greenhouse gases sharply raise the global average temperature, resulting in extreme weather changes that are occurring all over the world.

Asez Wao member, Thando Matutu concluded that the group would continue to take a step in cleaning up the environment with the heart of a mother, and hopes this encourages members of society, especially youth to get involved in cleaning the environment and reducing climate change.
