One suspect cornered in Orange Grove

A community member stopped Norwood police on patrol and alerted them to a robbery taking place nearby.

One suspect was arrested for attempted business robbery in Orange Grove. Norwood police spokesperson Warrant Officer Eric Masotsha said the suspect was arrested on September 13, at about 15:00.

“While crime prevention members of Norwood SAPS, sergeants Nicolas Mello and Fanie Rakgotsoga, were doing their routine patrols along Louis Botha Avenue they were stopped by a member of the public telling them criminals were robbing a nearby supermarket. The police then quickly [went] to where the robbery was taking place and immediately, when the suspects saw the police van, they ran away,” he narrated.

The warrant officer said a description was given and a lookout was done until one suspect was cornered in Orange Grove. The suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm with filed-off serial number and was arrested for attempted business robbery while his accomplice is still at large. Police took the evidence found and booked it in their register as an exhibit before court.

Masotsha said when the suspect first appeared in court bail was denied. He appeared again on October 4, for a bail application.* Check if bail was granted.

“Community members who know the whereabouts of the second suspect, should contact 011 483 4609/14 or 086 001 0111.”
