Two suspects arrested in possession of a hijacked vehicle in Parktown

Two suspects in possession of a hijacked motor vehicle were arrested by metro police officers conducting crime patrols on the M1 South and Jan Smuts Avenue.

Two male suspects were arrested by JMPD K9 Unit for the possession of a hijacked motor vehicle in Parktown.

JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla said on September 24 while on patrol, officers stopped a white Isuzu D-Max bakkie with two male occupants at the intersection of the M1 South and Jan Smuts Avenue in Parktown.

An inquiry into the vehicle was conducted by the officers and it was discovered that the vehicle had been hijacked at WeBuyCars in Centurion and was sought as per an Olievenhoutbosch SAPS case.

Fihla said the vehicle and the occupants were searched and an XBlow P9 blank gun, which was suspected to have been used in the commission of the crime, was recovered. A WeBuyCars iPad and an iPhone 12 were also recovered by the officers.

The suspects were arrested and detained at Hillbrow SAPS. The hijacked vehicle was seized and booked in at the SAPS Aeroton pound.

Upon detention, the SAPS Directorate of Priority Crime Investigation Hawks made contact and confirmed that the two men were part of a bigger syndicate targeting WeBuyCars.
