Founder Reneè Singh said the aim of the visit to the hospital was to make women who were conquering cancer feel special, especially on the last day of Women’s Month.

Breast cancer patient, Lerato Mashiane said she discovered a lump in her breast last year.

“I was diagnosed this year in February. I first felt a lump which was diagnosed as cancer by a local doctor and advised me to come back two months later after giving me medication which was supposed to make it disappear. The lump eventually disappeared and returned in December and was painful I then went to Helen Joseph Hospital where tests were conducted and was instructed to wait for a call from Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital”.

Mashiane added that there was a tumor on the outside of her breast which constantly bled and added to the pain caused by a lump.

She noted that receiving a call from the hospital to begin chemotherapy gave her a relief because she was now left with two more chemotherapy treatments.

Stage 1 breast cancer survivor, Nonhlanhla Sindane explained that she experienced bloody discharge on her left breast last year.

“I underwent a mammogram test and biopsy which came back positive as a cancerous tumor. I had three lumps where two were benign and one was cancerous and diagnosed as triple negative cancer.”

Sindane said triple negative cancer was an aggressive type of cancer, which was non-hormonal and had a tendency to return.

The survivor added that a decision to surgically remove it was made and was 3 cm in size, “I had a breast reconstruction because my breast was uneven after the tumor was removed. After that, I went to chemotherapy for five months which was taken as a preventative measure and will be going for radiation.”

She concluded that having faith in God helped in her healing journey.
