BrightSpark Foundation attends Women’s Day in Norwood

BrightSparks is an NPO that supports vulnerable youth they attended a Women’s Day event in Norwood to talk about their organisation's work.

A platform for supporting vulnerable youth, BrightSpark Foundation SA based in Highlands North, shared more about what they do at a Woman’s Day event. At the Women’s Day Celebration in Sports against Substance Abuse, held at Paterson Park in Norwood, the foundation’s members had a chat with attendees. BrightSpark Foundation SA is a non-profit organisation focused on youth development, especially in the field of supporting vulnerable youth and providing opportunities to vulnerable families.

Director at BrightSpark Foundation SA, Welcome Witbooi acknowledged that we all go through traumatic experiences with some people being raised by relatives other than their parents. He said at the foundation they want people to take the trauma they have gone through and use it as fuel to make things better.

He said the foundation is very concerned about the girl child and how to empower them.

“I believe I am not a leader, but I have been given a baton to lead until such time that the actual leader, a woman, has been empowered and ready to lead that I can then hand over that baton to her,” said Witbooi.

He urged everyone to actively work on creating the change that we always talk about.

Bongani Gumede who is also part of the foundation said they tackle bullying, cyberbullying and fight against substance abuse among other activities. He also said they teach young people about agriculture and the benefits of eating organic food with no chemicals or preservatives.

Bheki Sibiya said, as someone who grew up without a father, he runs the Man under the Tree co-organisation to showcase the need for father figures in one’s life. He highlighted certain situations that require a father’s presence and how a father’s absence can affect one’s behaviour.
