There were over 30 pots to choose from, including a few vegetarian options and contestants were judged on their food, their vibe and their decoration.

All proceeds from the day’s entry fees from teams cooking and vying for the title of potjie champion and the money raised from the sale of plates of potjie and from other delicious food stalls went entirely to beneficiaries of the charity including care homes for abused women and children, local school bursaries and the homeless.

Sout Potjie member, Amy Rossouw said, “My team and I are thrilled to have won, we did not expect it, but we put our hearts and soul into the pot.”

Nicarela Charity’s chairman, Daneela Jordaan said, “Over the years Nicarela operated, we have distributed more than seven million rand to all child based charities around the area and all of that came down to nearly nothing with Covid-19. By hosting this event we are hoping to get back to the seven million mark again.”
