SAPS celebrate the loyalty of officers

Four police officers awarded the 40 years of loyalty and faithfulness .

Gauteng SAPS members who have served with dedication for many years were honoured at a medal parade in Norwood.Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela awarded the 464 officers on July 26 in Paterson Park.

The medals awarded were for 10, 20, and 30 years of loyal service.

The ceremony started with Major General Patricia Rampota welcoming Gauteng MEC for Community Safety Faith Mazibuko; Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing Major General Tommy Mthombeni; Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection Major General Mbuso Khumalo; and Mawela to the prestigious occasion.

“It is an honour for me to award you SAPS medals for faithful and loyal service. I congratulate you all for having served with distinction and honour which we should be proud of,” said Mawela.

Mthombeni also thanked all the men and women in blue to keep up the good work. Unfortunately, he added, some officers had been discharged dishonourably due to corruption and ill-discipline.

In conclusion, he added, “The killings and attacks of police officers will remain a serious concern to us. I now call upon all of you to remain vigilant and on high alert.”
