St Teresa’s School learner shone at the Junior International Canoe Federation and Kayak Sprint World Canoeing Championships

St Teresa’s School congratulated learner Caitlyn Evans for her excellent showing in the ICF Junior and U23 Kayak Sprint World Canoeing Championships

The school’s admission and marketing manager Lianda May said, “Evans and her partner, Jordan Klopper from St David’s Marist Inanda represented South Africa at the ICF Junior and U23 Kayak Sprint World Canoeing Championships in Auronzo di Cadore, Italy. To qualify for the championships, the Grade 12 learner took part in the SA Schools Canoeing Sprint Championships at Germiston Lake at the beginning of May.”

Evans won gold in the K2 500m mixed event, silver in the K1 500m event and bronze in the K1 1 000m and K1 200m events earning her a green and gold blazer.

The canoeist and her partner, Klopper made it into the final of the K2 500m junior mixed event and came sixth overall in a time of 1:45:44. The achievement resulted in the pair earning an international rating of 15th in the world.
