Pirates road running club members conquered the 14km and 22 km from Orlando in Soweto to Greenside on July 16.
A Pirates committee member, Gerry Greyling said, “We doing this run as Pirates Road Running Club, together with the Orlando Pirates supporters club which we call connecting communities because different communities come together through the run. “
He added that all the funds contributed go towards two charities: the Vukani Adult Learning Centre in Soweto for disabled adults and Pirates Greenside development fund which looks after runners who cannot pay for their own races across the country.
The run happens annually while alternating hosts, last year it was in Orlando, Soweto hence this year it is at Greenside. The run has been going on for 12 years with a one-year break during 2020. The club run was made of two categories, 14km and 22km.
Samantha Sitoe said although the 22km run was filled with uphill roads, it was a challenge she enjoyed.
