Zana Singh said being part of the NPO, Warriors With A Purpose whose members volunteer at hospitals such as Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital helps her play her part in giving back.
Zana’s mother and founder and director of the NPO, Renee, creates cancer awareness, education and support through projects such as the Pink Bra Project. The project supports breast cancer survivors and donates bras which go towards a hospital’s oncology unit.
Zana added that being part of the NPO benefitted the youth through education on various aspects of different cancer journeys, especially because cancer was a disease that affected people of all ages.
The 19-year-old noted that Warriors With A Purpose hosted a cancer awareness drive at the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital on Mandela Day.
“In showing support and creating educational awareness for children and adults in the oncology units, we gave out food packs, toiletries, teddy bears, fruits, water and many more items,” said Zana.
She added the best part of working and being a part of the NPO was ‘the smiles on the people’s faces whenever we host an event or give back to the underprivileged’.
“It is seeing the hope and faith in their eyes even though they are fighting such a tough battle and shows that a little does go a long way.”
