Metro police arrest three suspects in Westcliff

Three suspects were arrested in Westcliff by the Metro police for kidnapping and possession of dangerous weapons.

Metro police confirmed the arrest of three suspects at the intersection of Jan Smuts Avenue and The Valley Road in Westcliff.
Spokesperson Xolani Fihla said on June 30 at about 10:30 while conducting a routine roadside check, Metro police Region B operations officers stopped a white minibus taxi.

“While inspecting the minibus, a male passenger started screaming for help. The officers then responded to the cry for help. The passenger then notified the officers that he had been kidnapped. One suspect fled the scene leaving behind a firearm, which was found to be a replica firearm,” said Fihla.

He added another three men who were in the vehicle were apprehended and two knives were recovered.

The men were taken to Parkview Police Station where a case of kidnapping and possession of dangerous weapons was opened for further investigation, said Fihla.
