Three St Mary’s School, Waverley learners selected for National English Olympiad

The St Mary’s School, Waverley has congratulated its three learners selected to be in the top candidates of this year’s National English Olympiad.

Three learners from St Mary’s School, Waverley were placed in the top 12 candidates of the 2023 National English Olympiad. The school congratulated the learners Tessa Dagut (Form V), Hayley Laithwaite (Form V) and Francesca Lewitton (Form IV).

Form IV learner Francesca Lewitton is happy to represent her school in the English Olympiad.

Head of marketing for the school Kathy Mittendorf said in March this year, more than 5 800 learners wrote the three-hour examination on the theme ‘A Better World’ and Tessa, Hayley and Francesca produced creative, sophisticated responses to a range of challenging questions. The top 12 candidates have been invited to the National Schools’ Festival in Makhanda, Gqeberha as guests of the English Olympiad. The final rankings will be announced at the English Olympiad prize giving on June 30.

Hayley Laithwaite in Form V is part of the top 12 chosen from St Mary’s School, Waverley.

St Mary’s is very proud of its English learners and English teacher, Lynn Knowles, who provided valuable guidance to all the candidates.
