Norwood police arrest two found with railway steel

After searching a car with two suspects during routine patrol, Norwood police found 12m of railway steel.

Norwood police arrested two suspects found in possession of stolen 12m of railway steel with a street value of R50 000. Norwood police spokesperson Warrant Officer Eric Masotsha reported that the suspects were caught on May 6 at about 17:37.
While police conducted their routine patrols at the corner of Fanny Avenue and William Road, they stopped a suspicious white Kia bakkie with two occupants carrying railway steel. Police identified themselves to the driver and passenger and asked to search them and permission was granted.

After a search was conducted, the police asked both occupants where they got railway steel from or if they worked on any railway construction. The men could not provide a reasonable explanation and both were taken to Norwood SAPS and detained for possession of stolen railway steel.

Masotsha said the suspects appeared in court and were denied bail and will only be eligible for another bail application on June 6.
