Quava Vocal Group serenaded the St Martin’s In-the-Veld church crowd

Songs performed by Quava Vocal Group at the St. Martin's In-the-Veld church include: Not One Sparrow is Forgotten, Laudate Dominum, Oculi Omnium and When We Love.

Quava Vocal Group stunned the St Martin’s In-the-Veld congregation with their In Our Golden Hour concert on May 21.

The choir performed 10 songs some of which included: When We Love, Eloyi, Ayikho Indawo Yakho, and Tonight Eternity.

The vocal group’s conductor, Sabelo Mthembu explained that it was the group’s first performance since their international trip to Spain last year. “We have been rehearsing for over a month which was an intense process. Some new members auditioned with two songs and old members auditioned with six songs that new members had to catch up to, but I love how committed everyone is which is evident in the A-game they brought.”

Mthembu added that the crowd responded well to the classical and spiritual items they sang. Alto singer, Nomfundo Ngwenya said her two years in the vocal group have been enlightening.

“This was our first performance this year and we have a brand-new repertoire, meaning we have never performed the songs we sang today. This was special for me because we shared our music with people who have an opportunity to give us feedback, even though it is silent, one can tell that the music is touching them differently by seeing their expressions.”

She added that one of the songs that stood out for her and made her emotional was ‘When We Love’ because as a believer, the song reminded her of the Kingdom of God.

The conductor encouraged the public to follow the vocal group on social media to be updated with their music and performance dates. Their next performance will be with the University of Pretoria’s youth choir next month.
