Parktown Boys’ High School’s cross-country team competes for a second league fixture at Wits Education Campus
Lethlonolo Masenya made Parktown boys proud by maintaining his unbeaten streak from last season. He finished first with a time of 14 minutes.
Parktown Boys’ High School showed their cross-country mettle at the second league cross-country fixture at the Wits Education Campus.
The fixture kicked off on the afternoon of May 5. The master in charge of cross country, Lisa Whiting said the boys were eager and ready for a run and the fixture went off smoothly with a total of 154 seniors and 137 junior competitors participating.
She said the boys improved their placement compared to the prior fixture.
The senior runners showed true determination for their 6km run and gave it their all. Captain, Njabulo Zulu placed fifth overall in a time of 21:55. Itumeleng Makeke improved his position by 10 places to finish in the top 20 and David van der Westhuizen improved his by two places. Whiting made special mention of Kai Lamond who improved by a staggering 30 places.
“Congratulations to the rest of the seniors who never wavered in their Parktown spirit and showed the true meaning of team spirit,” said Whiting. She added that new Grade 8 runners made them proud and never gave up.
Whiting gave an honorable mention to the following learners: Lethlonolo Masenya who again crushed the competition and placed first in a time of 14 minutes maintaining his unbeaten streak from last season. Bokang Matshega, finished in 18th place improving by 30 places from his first league. Nhlanhla Dube improved his placement by eight, Mikhail Williams by 17, Euan Stein and Langelihle Mlaba by 19 and Basindile Hegeni and Sandisile Mcineka by a massive 27 and 34 places respectively.
“Our juniors are making their mark and creating a powerful message for future runners. Congratulations boys, we are so proud of you. Special thanks again to coaches Mulalo Davhana and Matthew van Niekerk for their commitment, passion and outstanding effort with our cross-country family. We are lucky to have you and we value you,” said Whiting.
