Political effects on community members in changes of mayor in Johannesburg

New Joburg mayor questioned and possible to be removed.

Since Dr Mpho Phalatse’s removal, Joburg has never had a longstanding mayor. The current mayor, Kabelo Gwamanda is being questioned and if he is removed the elected mayor will be the 10th mayor. Rosebank Killarney Gazette took to the streets of Rosebank to ask residents how they feel with so many mayors being changed.

Here is what they had to say:

Snenhlahla Tshabalala: Politics does not interest me, but I feel like it doesn’t make any difference, all the mayors are not helping the community.
Eddie Madikazi: I feel like they are playing with people. I am confused, I don’t know how the process of choosing a mayor works, but it looks messy from the government side.
Thobekani Shivambu: I feel like the government doesn’t take people seriously, they should have first properly checked if the mayor is fit for the position before appointing someone.
Lesego Morake: I don’t even know the last mayor before this one because i don’t see how they are helping me. I really feel like they are all the same.
